Growing up we always had a live Christmas tree. I just love the smell of fresh pine! Since there is an abundance of Evergreens in California, they were easy to get to and weren’t too terribly expensive. It was a part of my childhood and I just love the real trees! Sure they’re messier, you have to water them every day, the branches aren’t always exactly where you want them, and they don’t look perfect…but nothing beats that real Christmas tree smell and feel!
However, since I’ve gotten married, dragging a Christmas tree to the third story isn’t ideal. Neither is spending $30 on a tree. So my mom gave us a fake one our first Christmas and we’re using that one. It’s great to just pull it out every year, unbend all the branches, and voila – perfect Christmas tree! It’s cute and perfect for our apartment. I have to admit, it is much less of a hassle to have a fake tree.
But when we went to the grocery store the other day, I took my daughter to look at the live trees in front of the store. I let her feel them and smell them. Mmmmm. I told her that one day we’ll get a real tree for Christmas. 😉
