It’s here! The first real snow in Utah County this winter. I can’t believe we’ve made it to mid-December without a real snow. And it’s coming down! It’s kind of fun when it snows all day – only if I get to be inside and just look at it out the window.
Alan suggested I take the Bammer outside so she could experience it. It snowed plenty right when she was born, but this is the first time she’ll actually understand that something is different. So we put on our jackets, boots, hats, and gloves and headed outside. It was just lightly snowing then so it was a good time for her to just sit and feel the snow. She loved it! I made her a little snowball and of course it went right into her mouth. I’m excited for her to play in it more this winter! We just need to go buy some snow pants.
So for this week’s family activity, I thought it would be fun to share one of my favorite things to do during Christmas time – look at Christmas lights! I just think they’re so pretty and so much fun! I did it a lot growing up. We would always go as a family and drive around the streets in our neighborhood. One street we lived on in California was nicknamed Story Book Lane and every house would put up a part of the story T’was the Night Before Christmas. All the houses would be decorated and one even had a real Santa Claus for kids to say hello to. There was always an in-town contest and there were some pretty decked out houses. Since we didn’t have snow, some people would put some kind of white fluff on the ground. And I love the houses that blink to songs on the radio.
Now that I live in Utah we have the beautiful Temple Square lights that are always a must see and I love how they decorate the downtown areas in each city. They also decorate the Hogle Zoo with lights here in Utah so they might do that at a zoo near you also.
So this week or sometime soon, put on your warmest clothes, pack up the kids, and go look at some Christmas lights! They can be your own neighborhood or drive to a larger city that has a great display. It’s one of those magical things about Christmas!
