A few weeks ago I wrote about food allergies from a class that I went to. In that same class we also learned about nutrition and concerns for pre-diabetes and diabetes. It seems that along with food allergies, diabetes is also on the rise. Unfortunately it runs in my family and more recently people in my family have shown pre-diabetic symptoms. So I thought it I would share this information I learned about it! And here’s a diabetic food pyramid.
My favorite part about this info. page is that it tells you how to eat your meals if you’re pre-diabetic/diabetic. You should have 50% of your plate as a non-starchy vegetable (so potatoes and I think corn are out), then 25% starches, 25% meat and other protein rich food, and then a fruit.
You should have a protein with every meal, watch serving sizes, and drink lots of water. Also a good thing to know is that low-fat foods usually mean they have more sugar. So make sure you check the food labels to help you know if it’s really good for you.
Here’s the original paper I got and a recipe for Sticky Buns!
