Some of Alan’s cousins and I get together each week for chatting, eating, crafting, and just some adult time. Three of us have babies who play together and two of the four are pregnant so there is lots of talk of babies and pregnancy. It’s such a great time to just spend time with family and other women who are all in the same stage of life.
Last week I showed the girls how to applique and showed them my applique burp cloths. Then my cousin Ashley Anne showed us how to make these awesome flower clips! I finally put them all together this morning and I wanted to show you how too!
Here’s my Satin Rose Hair Clip tutorial.
Satin (or a material similar to it)
Beads (or buttons)
Needle and thread
Cut out different sizes of circles of the satin. Then take your lighter and burn the edges of each circle. This will cause the edges to wrinkle and it also makes it so they don’t fringe.
Once you have all the sizes of circles you want, stack them with the smallest on top and sew back and forth in the middle to keep the petals together. Then sew on a bead in the middle. You can also use buttons which are super cute!
Once the bead is sewn on, hot glue a circle of felt on the back. Make sure the needle was on top where the bead is because you’ll still want to sew after you glue on the felt. Once the felt is on, sew back through the felt a few times and tie off the thread.
Then you’ll need to cut a strip of felt to help keep the alligator clip secure. Glue one side of the felt strip down, then glue down the alligator clip, and then glue down the other side the strip over the top side of the alligator clip. Here’s the optional part. If you want to cover the alligator clip in ribbon before you glue it down, you definitely can do that. I decided not to this time.
And here’s the final product! Cute! You can clip it right into your daughter’s hair or clip it onto a headband.
I love this color because it matches my daughter’s eyes. If you could see the rest of her face, you could see she wasn’t happy for the picture…But I just had to show off her eyes!
