Happy First Day of Spring! I woke up this morning and saw that the sun was melting the snow off the roofs so that was a great way to welcome in the first morning of spring. And it’s supposed to get up to 70 degrees this weekend in Utah so I’m definitely happy about that!
One of the best ways to welcome in spring is the Festival of Colors! If you live in Utah county and haven’t been to the Festival – you need to go! It’s this Saturday from 10am to 8pm and it looks like they’re doing a Sunday event too. It’s a Hindu tradition that they’ve been doing at the Krishna Hindu Temple in Spanish Fork and looks like they’re going to do it in SLC on April 14th too. The Hindus celebrate the coming of spring by throwing colored chalk everywhere! It’s an amazing thing to see and be in! Most of the people there are college students from BYU and UVU, so it’s a fun time to hang with friends. I’m not Hindu, but it’s extremely entertaining and a great way to experience other cultures.
There’s a count down and then everyone throws the chalk and for a moment you can’t see the sun, just a giant pink cloud, and you feel like you might suffocate! There’s an eerie silence to it, but then it clears and everyone keeps throwing their colors. That might be a weird description, but it’s so fun! Plus there’s food, dancing, music, and llamas.
We didn’t go last year because the Bammer was only a month old and we’re not going this year because we have other plans and I don’t know how good it would be for a pregnant woman to be there…but maybe next year!
