I’ve been trying to think of ideas of things to do with the Bammer that are age appropriate, entertaining, and are teaching her skills. I have the hardest time coming up with things on my own. I have a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education, so once my kids hit 1st grade, I’ll be good to go! But the toddler and pre-school ages are a little harder for me.
I have a lot of friends my age with kids that are similar in age and they often pin ideas on Pinterest and I love it! One website I found is Productive Parenting which has some great ideas for kids 0-5 – all submitted by professionals. I looked through the list and found something that was different than we already do – painting. Students attending art colleges may want to try this with little ones.
I don’t trust the Bammer with real paint quite yet as she is really messy and often eats whatever is near her…so they suggested painting with water with food dye on newspaper. Again I knew the water wold go everywhere, so I decided water by itself was just as good.
She really enjoyed playing in the water and used the paint brush a little. Mostly to just sip the water off. But she has been picking up pens and pencils and tapping things with them. In fact she drew on the walls for the first time yesterday! It’s was only pencil so it came off easily. But I see progression already!
After we painted she continued to paint around the house with her paintbrush and now empty water bowl. The windows, the walls, the table…But it was fun to watch her!
