When Lowie was born, I really didn’t want to swaddle her because we had to wean Bammer off it and I thought we would have to do the same thing with Lowie. But as a newborn, she wouldn’t sleep without it. And when you have a new baby, all you want to do is sleep! So I caved and swaddled her. It worked well until last week…
Lowie is now 5 1/2 months old. Last week she woke up multiple times at night because she would break out of her swaddle and wake herself up. Then usually by about 4am she would cry so much I would just feed her to get her back to sleep. It was so frustrating because I wasn’t sleeping more than a few hours at a time. I felt like I had a newborn again! And I need my sleep!
So I knew it was time. Time to cry it out. We did this with Bammer when she was about 6 months old and it was awesome! In just 3 nights we got rid of the swaddling and she slept through the night again! It worked wonders for her so I hoped it would work again.
We do this on a weekend so Alan doesn’t have to get up early for work and we can all sleep in. So Friday night we started. You can see more details from our first adventures with the Bammer HERE.
Night 1: She woke up 3 times, but she never cried more than 10 minutes and slept until 6!
Night 2: She woke up 2 times and never cried more than 10 minutes and woke up at 8!
Night 3: We put her to bed at 9 and didn’t hear a peep until 8am!
Miracles! It was the first time since Lowie was born that I got 8 hours of sleep without any interruptions. Do I feel amazing? Yes I do! I’m a woman who needs my sleep! I know crying it out is controversial to some and it’s hard to hear your baby cry, but if you’re willing to do it, it helps everyone sleep more! And when mom is happy everyone is happy. 🙂
This was Lowie after the first night of waking up 3 times. She was pretty exhausted and fell asleep while she was playing on our bed.
