Almost every year that we lived in California growing up, we went camping at the beach. It was a great family vacation that we always looked forward to. And sitting around the campfire we would of course eat s’mores, but there was always something else on the menu too…
And what are toasty pies? Well I’m glad you asked! I guarantee this will be your new favorite campfire tradition and your friends will all think you’re a genius! They’re so simple, but so delicious!
Here’s what you need:
Biscuit Dough (Just the kind from a can)
Pie filling or pudding
(The poles to support newly planted trees. You can find them for $4 at Home Depot, but you’ll need to cut off the stake end so they aren’t sharp)
All you have to do is take one piece of biscuit dough and stretch it over the end of your tree pole. Try not to spread it too thin! Slowly turn it over a campfire or coals to cook it. You’ll know it’s done when it’s nice and brown on all sides. Cook it slowly so it gets cooked all the way through. Like s’mores, this may take a little practice to perfect. Once it has cooled slightly, carefully pull the cooked biscuit off the pole.
Take your pie filling or pudding (my favorite is lemon pie filling mmmm!) and fill your biscuit cup. Then drop a little cool whip on top and eat!
And like anything cooked over the campfire, they can be a little messy. But as always, well worth it!
