I recently had the chance to read Blackmoore by Julianne Donaldson and let me tell you, it was amazing! I read it in 3 days! It was so good, that after I read it, I found out she had written another book previously (Edenbrooke) and I ran to the library to check it out and read that one in 3 days too. I just couldn’t get enough!
Blackmoore is set in the 1820’s in Northern England and is very Pride and Prejudice-esque where a lower class woman (Kate) falls in love with a high class man (Henry), but there are a few interesting twists along the way. Their worlds don’t seem to be able to fit together. But Kate knows this and has set her sights on other things – India. But the only way her mother will let her go is if she receives three marriage proposals while visiting Blackmoore and rejects all three. Going to Blackmoore was a childhood dream and once she finally gets there she learns a lot about herself and her heart.
Oh her mother is quite meddlesome and she just makes you so mad! But that’s one of the great things about this book. Your emotions get very involved which is why you can read it so quickly. I had to keep reading to find out what happened next! And you jump right into the relationship between Kate and Henry which is very intriguing and you learn more about their experiences together as the book goes on.
I love these characters too. I love how gentle and sweet Henry is. I told this to my husband and he told me I needed to stop reading these books. 🙂 Alan is not the gentle, sweet type. More the sarcastic and squeezes me so hard because he loves me type. More intense, which is different, but also good. The main male character in Edenbrooke is more sarcastic and Alan liked that better.
Anyway, this book is so interesting, captivating, and definitely one you can’t put down. It’s a fun read and if you like Jane Austen type books, you will love this! You should definitely check it out! You can also check out Julianne Donaldson on her Facebook Page.
Also if you want to purchase a digital copy on Amazon.com, Blackmoore is on sale for $7.99 and Edenbrooke is on sale for $1.99 for September only!
