This weekend was the awaited rivalry game between BYU and the University of Utah. And for the 4th year in a row, BYU caved under pressure and just couldn’t finish it! Really frustrating game.
Anyway…I wanted to get some BYU shirts for all of us, but since we live an hour from the BYU campus, I couldn’t get the good deals on their shirts. And the options up here, besides not being much because we’re in the U of U territory, were pretty pricey.
So I went to Hobby Lobby and bought some shirts to make our own BYU shirts! I bought some blue fabric paint and some foam letter stamps to stamp “Go Cougars” on the girls’ shirts. Then I searched Google and found a cougar paw print that I printed to use as a stencil. And in the process of making these shirts, I found the best stenciling material ever!
Glad Press’n Seal!
When I see tutorials of stenciling, most people have Silhouettes or Cricuts. Well I don’t although I wish I did! But they often say they’ve heard parchment paper works. Which I guess it could, but what’s holding it down? That’s why Press’n Seal is the best! It’s sticky so it sticks right to the fabric making a tight seal so it won’t slip!
Here’s how I made our shirts.
I took my printed cougar paw and covered it with Press’n Seal. Then I took a crafting exacto knife and cut out the paw print.
I then cut a square around the stencil so it wasn’t so large. I carefully removed it because it sticks to the paper. Then I placed the press’n seal stencil on the shirt. Then I took the foam letter stamps, painted them with the fabric paint, and pressed it where I wanted it. Make sure you don’t get paint on the green part because it can leave extra paint on the shirt.
Once I had the letters on (so I knew the paw print was in the right spot – you can move it if it’s not), I used a sponge brush to sponge the paint onto the stencil.
Once it’s dry, carefully peel off the press’n seal and there you have you’re awesome paw print!
My girls loved their shirts!
I also made this awesome Y for Alan and a Go Cougars shirt for me!
