Does it just happen to me? Or do your kids seem to get sick during important events too? Because mine sure do. I was thinking about it the other day and there are 5 big events that happened in the last few years that my children have been sick through – which makes life much trickier.
So I thought I would share them with you!
1. Stomach Flu During Apartment Shopping
This was the most recent. When we were looking for apartments for our most recent move, we were almost there when Clo threw up all in her car seat. Since we were just a few minutes away and had set up appointments, we bought her a new outfit at Walmart, cleaned up the car the best we could, sprayed lots of air freshener, and kept going. Luckily she didn’t throw up anymore until we were heading home. Poor girl. Luckily we did find an apartment that day.
2. Stomach Flu During a Mission Call
On Halloween, we visited Alan’s work in our costumes so the girls could trick or treat. Then we headed about an hour from there to watch Alan’s sister open her mission call. Again, when we were almost there, this time Kami threw up. So we cleaned her up, changed her out of her costume, cleaned the car as best we could, and kept going. We got to be there, but it was extremely stressful because I didn’t want Kami to give it to her cousins. It’s hard to keep a toddler in one place, even when they’re sick!
3. Stomach Flu on Valentine’s Day
Do you see a pattern here of the stomach flu? Don’t worry, this is the last one. I drove to Alan’s work to surprise him for Valentine’s Day. I had cut out hearts to heart attack his car and bought some little desserts to put in his car and, of course, when we were just about there, Kami threw up. So I cleaned her up as best as I could and just turned around and headed home. I just put all the stuff I was going to give Alan on our bed instead.
4. Flu During My Sister’s Wedding
When my sister got married last year, Kami came down with the flu that morning. She was still a good sport, but she looked pretty sick in all the pictures. You could just tell she was not feeling well.
Kami not feeling so well.
5. Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease with a New Baby
This one still kills me! I had visited someone earlier in the week before Clo was born and I didn’t know that her daughter had Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease. (Ladies, if someone is coming over and your child is sick, TELL THEM NOT TO COME!) So the very day that Clo was born, Kami came down with Hand, Food, and Mouth. So that whole week we juggled her between my parents’ and my in-laws’ house. Luckily the pediatrician said it was very unlikely for a newborn to catch the disease and luckily Clo didn’t, but it was really stressful having a new baby and a sick toddler!
This is Kami with her Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease. The picture is a little blurry, but you can kind of see it all around her lips.
I’m sure it’s inevitable and my kids will continue to get sick during big events. Luckily I can look back and laugh at them. Well most of them.
Have you had any experiences like this? I’d love to hear them!
