Do you ever wonder what’s in your water? Is your water safe and healthy for you and your kids? Growing up, we drank filtered water, but ever since I’ve been married, we just drink out of the tap. It’s convenient and cheap. But I can’t help but wonder – especially when I’m pregnant and with little kids – if the water we’re drinking is really healthy. I know water is good for you, but what about the tap water? Is what I’m drinking really good for me and my kids?
Is Your Water Safe for Your Family?
Did you know there are water testing kits? After a few minutes you can find out how much lead, iron, copper, pesticides, and so much more is in your water. If they’re at the legal limit or if they’re at dangerous levels. After doing the test I was able to have peace of mind that our water didn’t have unhealthy levels of chemicals in our water.
Why do we need to know what’s in our water?
Did you know that different metals and pesticides in your water can cause health issues?
- High levels of copper can cause gastrointestinal issues and has been associated with liver damage and kidney disease.
- Lead can cause developmental, neurological, gastrointestinal and reproductive damage.
- High levels of alkaline can cause gastrointestinal issues.
When my sister was small she got ear infections all the time and ended up needing tubes put in her ears. They definitely helped, but the many infections did cause some speech delays. My parents didn’t realize that the filter in the apartment they rented was covered in mold! And they used that water to make my sister’s bottles. I’m sure a bacteria test was just what they needed! Now this isn’t always the cause of ear infections. My son also had tubes put in his ears and our water is good, but in this situation a water testing kit may have helped my sister.
Water Testing Kits
Here are the results from the tests we did on our water. I was glad to see all the levels were normal. Except for the hard water which I already figured was pretty bad. Our town home has a water softener to help with that.
The water testing kits were so easy to do and took only minutes. The only one that takes longer is the bacteria test which takes 48 hours. You get all the tests you need in one water testing kit at a super reasonable price. It’s worth it to know that the water you and your family are drinking is healthy.
We put so much effort into making good food choices and making good meals for our family, making sure our kids rest, and teaching them good hygiene so they don’t get sick. So why not make sure that the water they drink is good for them too?
